Psychological & Physiological Effects of Light on Human Body

Psychological & Physiological Effects of Light on Human Body

by saumya

Can you imagine your life without Natural light and the peace it gives to your soul? Obviously, the answer is NO. Natural Light is one of the most precious things that nature has given us. In today’s life, with social activities expanding, people require reliable lighting during all hours of the day and night BUT in this era of Industrialisation, and now COVID – 19, it is equivalent to risking your life by going out and enjoying the beautiful natural light. Light makes us see and appreciate the beauty around us and also increases the release of serotonin, which is known as the happy hormone and further helps to have a better mood, as well as feel focused and calm.

If the exposure to it is in perfect proportion it helps to prevent Cancer, increase your metabolism rate and enhances your physical and mental health. Now the big question which comes in our mind is how can we get perfect Natural light in our home which uplifts our mood without damaging our skin?

Here comes, Smart Lighting Solution. In last few years, Smart Lighting Solution has become the priority of every smart home owner. It connects your lighting devices and adjusts them depending on the ambient daylight intensity. Apart from ambience there is a huge scientific logic behind Smart Lighting control system. Smart Lighting Solution is designed for both, Workplaces and Homes.

  1. Workplaces

In a workspace, Conference Room can be a space to exchange ideas, view multimedia presentations, teleconferences etc.And if a presenter wants to incorporate a video into their meeting, he just needs to push a button labelled “A/V,” which will dim the lights, close the shades and lower the projection screen. Once the video has ended pushing “Meeting” button brighten the lights and raise the shades for a better scenario to field questions.

According to a new study conducted by Alan Hedge, a professor in the Department of Design and Environmental Analysis at Cornell, workers in day lit office environments reported an 84 percent drop in symptoms of eyestrain, headaches and blurred vision symptoms, which can detract from productivity.

And another survey from Future Workplace shows that over 1,600 employees ranked “access to natural light and views of the outdoors” as their number one desire for a workplace environment.

  1. Residences

In our homes, Smart Lighting Solution can regulate the natural light which comes from outside to your room. When you wake up in the morning you are suddenly exposed to very high quantity of light by manually switching to your light bulbs which inhibits your Brain’s natural process of working. On other hand, when you have Smart Lighting solution you just press “Good Morning” button and your curtains will drag allowing the low intensity natural light to come into your room and make you feel the freshness of nature just sitting in your home and when the optimum sunlight meets a minimum desired level, lights are turned off. Once it gets dark outside, lights are turned back on. So, switching will usually occur only twice a day – at the beginning and at the end of it.

According to Brenda Mc Mahon, MD of the Neurobiology Research Unit at the Copenhagen University Hospital, Denmark, “If people are exposed to light in the morning that mimics the wavelengths of daylight, they become better at coping with anxiety-provoking experiences. The light simply improves the communication between the regions of the brain that are central to our handling of emotions such as stress and anxiety”.

Combining Natural daylight and artificial light provides a constant, optimised lighting environment which improves wellbeing of occupants. You can enjoy the warmth of natural light, while not having to deal with unnecessary light pollution generated by luminaires.

So, Make Sunlight your spotlight with a sophisticated daylight control system and take full advantage of beautiful natural light along with other sources by putting flexibility at your fingertips! No wires, no batteries, no limits! The end result is excellent energy savings potential that cuts your energy bills and adds an unexpected boost to your mental and physical health.

Has it ever been easier than today on such a large scale? We think not!

Role of Technology post COVID-19

by sohang

‘It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent one, but the one most responsive to change.’

As the humankind is facing its biggest existential crisis since World War II, COVID 19 has disrupted the way people live all around the world. Few weeks ago, no one in their wildest dream would have thought about a global lockdown which would force more than half of global population to stay home. This was unpredicted, appalling, distressing and will have a long lasting effect on people, society, businesses, and the global economy at large scale. But every cloud has a silver lining and COVID 19 was a blessing for all of us to strengthen our faith and belief in the power of technology. The need of the hour for all companies is to go for new business technologies during this crisis. Organizations should create new business models that will impact all components of performance. Use of technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning have become the lifeline for a large set of companies worldwide to ensure business continuity and offering uninterrupted services to their customers.

In spite of global recession, there are some companies that have adapted well to the situation and doing better than before. These businesses are taking a second look at how they are positioning themselves in the market and how their current operations can be improved ensuring the safety of their employees and customers. For example, Pizza chains like Dominos and Papa John’s have adopted no contact delivery method. They are accepting online orders only. Papa John is offering a touchless experience for pizza delivery and their ‘Papa Truck’ is fully functioning for customers who want better insight into their orders.  They haven’t slowed down their operations, but instead kept pushing forward and investing in their people and technology. They are also offering custom drop-off points. Customers can indicate where exactly they would prefer their order to be left by a delivery person — it can be left by the front door, on a bench, at a reception desk, or whatever is easiest and more comfortable. Apart from these two, food companies like First Choice, Boka, Eden East and J.W Lopes were quick in adapting these measures to run their business smoothly amid lockdown.

COVID 19 lockdown came as a blessing in disguise for OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime. With everyone stuck at home and theaters shut down for a long time, everyone prefers watching their favorite movies and web series on these platforms. Film makers are releasing their movies directly on these platforms instead of waiting for theaters to re-open. In this way, film makers are also not suffering losses due to delay in their film’s release.

Although Covid-19 has significantly impacted the beauty industry, makeup continues to play an important role in many people’s lives as part of their desire to look and feel their best. MAC Cosmetics has been working with YouCam to roll out AR smart mirrors in its stores since the end of 2017, and only 2.6% of stores are currently equipped. It introduced an AR try-on tool through a dedicated website tab in August 2019. MAC’s AR try-on tool comes at a time when shopping habits and the retail environment continues to change post-coronavirus shutdowns. The company is hoping its AR-play will be used as an Omni-channel tool moving forward.

Technology is playing its role in helping almost every business in surviving this recession. Many businesses have started accepting orders online or over the phone. Companies like Amazon and Flipkart have started delivering products with the help of drones to avoid human contact. Even small businesses have started accepting online payments to avoid cash transaction. Educational institutes have started giving online classes to students via applications like Zoom. The graph given below indicates the increase in online customers across different sectors during lockdown.

As people stay at home, consumers have shifted from personal interactions, where they provide direct feedback, to digital interactions. As it’s no longer possible to eat out, they’ll be ordering online deliveries. Going to shops to buy clothes might be risky, so they would prefer shopping online. The same pattern is being replicated in sectors across the globe. That’s where AI comes into picture and helps us to find out what customers feel and need.

Not only in understanding consumer behavior, this technology can also help businesses post COVID 19 to manage their demand and supply. For example, a big steel company has information about the various factors that might influence demand for steel, such as the demand for automobiles. This data can be used to match up to what their supply chains can produce. In this way the company is not producing more than needed and not leaving unfulfilled demand too.

Now, more than ever, it’s important for companies to understand the environment we’re living in and adapt to it. These are the companies that will not only survive during the pandemic but get ahead of their competition.

Home Automation: Rapidly Growing Industry

by Nihar Sharma

It is pretty hard to ignore the fact that smart technology has become an essential part of our lives. The world of home automation has gone from a luxury item, to a trend, and now being a ‘must have’ technology.

In the last 20 years, smart home technologies have evolved outstandingly, making it possible for users to control and monitor their appliances even when they are away from home.

What Millennial think of Home Automation?

  • It is not really surprising that millennial want smart home technology, but a recent study conducted by Wakefield Research has confirmed it. Their findings show that 86% of millennial are ready to pay more for a home or rental property if it has smart home technology.
  • In fact, millennial are happy to pay an average 20% more in order to secure a home with smart technology. They like electronic access, keyless locks, interconnected doorbells, phone controlled security systems, voice activated assistants, and much more.
  • According to a Neilson global online study, almost 75% of millennial are ready to pay extra for sustainable offerings, and Generation Z is also committed to a positive environmental impact. These young generations of future will demand sustainable offerings in home, and home automation is a simple way to improve energy efficiency and match these future home buyer’s needs.

According to The Washington Post, 54% of home buyers say that if they have to choose between two identical houses, one with smart technology, the other without, they would buy the smart home. The post also specified a massive survey of 22,000 home owners done by John Burns Real Estate Consulting which found that not only do potential buyers rank smart technology high when they evaluate housing options; they are also prepared to pay thousands of dollars for it.

Smart home equipment is becoming more affordable and less avoidable in the market. Household penetration is 5.1% in 2020 and is expected to hit 10.5% by 2023.

  • The figure shows the forecasted revenue development of the selected market (market segment, region) for each year.

Over and above all the statistics, we cannot ignore the changes POST COVID-19 scenario will bring in our lives.

Social Distancing, Contactless Interactions, Safety & Health Measures; a single click from your phone to operate your home abides to all of the above.

Home automation provides you Security, Comfort, Convenience, Savings, Optimum utilization of devices & Luxury. Home automation can touch just above every detail of your home, helping to create an enriched lifestyle & a comfortable surrounding. So the question shouldn’t be “why should I invest in a home automation system?” rather, “why wouldn’t I invest in a home automation system?”.

We no longer call it the future, smart is current!

Home Automation: Personalization is the Key!

by saumya

As Quoted by Cecelia Ahern “Home isn’t a place, it’s a feeling” and how can one feel great when coming home doesn’t tend to be relaxing and one has to switch and adjust Lights, A.C, Curtains manually after a long tiring day? On other hands, a home welcomes you with pre-adjusted temperature, perfect curtains, properly dimmed light and your favorite music. Sounds peaceful, Isn’t it?

That’s when Home Automation comes into the picture.

Your home can be personalized to the level you have never thought of. One of the most compelling features of home automation is the ability to press one button that spawns multiple actions. Upgrading the traditional switchboards with the personalized keypads where your customized actions are engraved on it in your language, pattern, button shapes and labels.

Let’s understand with an example, there’s a dedicated Home Theater in your home with beautiful Interiors with all the equipped technologies. From acoustics to the sound system to the screen to the projector. And with so many equipment comes so many remote controls. How about a single button in the entrance operate the entire room? With “Entertain” engraved on the button when pressed, all the curtains come down, lights are dimmed at 10% for first 2-3 minutes giving enough brightness for everyone to settle; AC temperature set at 24 degrees; projector, screen, speakers turning ON. You select your preferred movie/show and the lights turn OFF.

And thus, minimum 5 functions took place with a single button which otherwise would have taken 5 different remotes and an expert to control them all!

In another instance, let’s say it’s your bedroom, the button on the Keypad has been engraved for you as “Goodnight”. This will put your home to sleep with a simple touch. All the doors in the home will be locked, interior lights and televisions will turn off, the temperature is set back to a comfortable sleeping temperature you want, the alarm system will be armed, and the perimeter lights of home (the landscape lights) will turn on.

And just like that, multiple scenes can be activated. You can also create scenes for hours of the day, movie nights, reading sessions etc. Sky is the limit! Because it’s meant to be for You.

Scenes are single touch settings that set multiple functions at once and create a perfect one for You. It has predefined settings for lights, curtains, temperature, music, or whatever you choose. You can select and customize the functions yourself, to achieve the perfect ambient that suits your needs, from time to time.

Personalization options aren’t merely limited to devices in and around the home; homeowners can also quickly and easily set up triggers that send push notifications to their smartphones as well. Parents might choose to receive a pop-up alert when their kids unlock the front door at the end of the school day. Having Digital Video Door Phones is always a smart idea. You can see who is standing in front of your door when you’re enjoying your holiday in Europe. You can also communicate with them in real-time and unlock your home door for them if you want to.

Last but not the least, Smart home gives the sense of luxury, a luxury which can be seen, felt and appreciated. All of these things make for a better living experience in your home. When small things are being taken care of, less time is spent on adjusting the room as per your mood and more time with your family and friends, for your interest and comfort.

Home Automation is for You. It needs to Simplify things for You. It needs to lessen your tedious work. It needs to Understand You!

So, when you make your new home or renovate the existing one, make sure you have got a 100% Personalized Experience!

Human Centric Lighting at Workplaces

by sohang

‘You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.’- Buckminster Fuller

With this amazing quote by Mr. Fuller, I would like to tell about an example that best suits this quote- ‘Human Centric Lighting’.  The advanced features of Human Centric Lightings have overshadowed old lights that had only one feature of giving brightness in a room. New lights having these features serve multiple purposes at same time.

Lighting is one of the principle elements of this century as it has the potential to influence the health and performance of employees. This decade has been the decade of innovations with new products being introduced that are revolutionizing all modern residential and workplaces. Human Centric Lighting (HCL) System is one of those innovations.

HCL is a type of lighting that helps in improving the physical as well as Emotional health of people. It ensures this by managing the light inside a room with accordance to sunlight throughout the day. Human body is habitual of changing level of light received by Sun around the clock. HCL works on Circadian rhythm to provide appropriate level of light to employees, helping them in increasing productivity and efficiency at work. Circadian rhythm is a natural, internal process that regulates the sleep-wake cycle and repeats roughly every 24 hours.

Apart from increasing productivity and efficiency, HCL has many other benefits. As we know that HCL works on Circadian rhythm, so it helps the employees in getting effective night’s rest. It has a positive impact on sleep pattern of employees which in turn has a positive impact on work performance. Work performance of employees has increased by 18%. Reading speed of people under HCL has also increased up to 30%.  HCL works on the concept of working according to daylight. This helps in reducing energy consumption and making the concept highly sustainable.

Some other benefits of HCL include:

  • Reduced Hyperactivity
  • Saves money and Environment
  • Better visual acuity
  • Reduction in errors and accidents
  • Improved Moods
  • Better Morning alertness

The market for Human Centric Lighting is projected to grow from USD 810 Million in 2019 to USD 3655 Million by the end of 2024 with a compound annual growth rate of 32%. The Market share of Europe alone is more than USD 400 Million. More than 40% of the expected growth is expected to come from Europe alone.

Benefits of Human Centric Lighting in different sectors:-

1. Education Sector: – Whether you are a teacher or a student, lighting is factor that affects your accuracy. Human Centered lights in a normal class help not only the student to understand everything but also help teachers to manage class effectively. During tests, these lights can help students to improve their performance as it helps in increasing concentration.

2.           Healthcare Sector: – Operation Rooms, Recovery Rooms and Intensive Care rooms are well suited for implementing Human Centric Lightings. It helps in adjusting the lights according to patient’s health. It results in less strain on the eyes, less fatigue and improved health quality.  Under these lights, patients fell asleep 30% faster and achieved 8% longer sleep time.

The error rate of workplaces with these lightings has decreased by 45%. 71% of the employees felt more energized while 78% felt happier and healthier. Overall task accuracy has increased by 12% and productivity by 10%. Attrition rate of companies has also decreased

It is important to understand how light can affect a person’s health, efficiency, work performance and overall potential. With new innovations coming in Lighting and Home Automation, creating a safe and healthy home has become easier than ever. They are also energy efficient and easier to control with smart control systems. HCLs help the customers all across the sectors in achieving appropriate balance of lighting. When lighting applications demand both health and performance at the same time, innovations like these have always been fruitful.

Home Automation in India

by Nihar Sharma

“There is nothing more important than a good, safe, secure home.” – Rosalynn Carter

The smart home market comprises of networked devices and related services that enable automation. Home Automation system controls lighting, temperature, entertainment systems and appliances. It also includes home security such as access control and alarm systems. Home Automation is a new concept in India which is slowly gathering momentum. The Smart Home concept has increased efficiency in energy consumption management and taking lifestyle to next level.

Home Automation has some constraints in India:

  • It is considered as a luxury and not a necessity to have in a house.
  • Lack of In-depth knowledge about home automation.
  • People consider it expense rather than investment.
  • Lack of good home automation integrator.
  • It is considered too much complicated.
  • In India, buying homes are considered to be an investment and they usually find home automation technology to be an accessory that is unnecessary for their household.

Let’s see what the industry experts have to say on this.

Anku Jain, Managing Director of MediaTek India said “5G will accelerate growth of smart homes, as connectivity will be better, lag will be less and capacity will be higher”.

Puneesh Kumar, Country Manager for Alexa Experience said “There has been a five times increase in Alexa Enabled Smart Home users in 2019. The selection of smart home devices has also increased Thirty times.”

In India, there is a huge market of Construction. For example, city like Mumbai, where construction doesn’t stop, home automation will definitely get a great exposure.

Across India, people are shifting towards smart equipments as they can take care of routine tasks – operating fans, lights, AC, door locks, cameras, etc. Home Automation provides you Security, Comfort, Convenience, Optimum utilization of devices & Luxury. It is the duty of your Integrator to take care of your household objective I.e. ensure minimum wastage & maximum benefit.

According to Economics Times India, the Indian smart home market is expected to be around $6 billion by 2022, a two-fold increase from $3 billion estimated in 2020.

Source: Economic Times India

The Hybrid technology helps the integrator in not only installing the system with ease but also helps the user in saving money by making the system energy efficient. Going for whether wired or wireless system depends upon the user’s budget, work scale and installation policy.  Availability of uninterrupted Wi-Fi services in the country has also propelled the growth of home automation products in India. App based control over switches, lighting devices, Entertainment system and audio video control are widely used products in Home Automation industry. Devices like Google Home, Amazon Alexa voice over control devices are making home automation more attractive.

This niche segment in India is witnessing a larger acceptance due to availability of affordable and durable products that do not require wiring, can be installed to control few appliances and can be scaled up as per requirement. As home automation is an emerging market, and India being the country with the highest potential for this market, the global players are expected to extend their businesses in India.

The evolving role of Virtual Assistant in Home Automation

by saumya

“No one is more cherished in this world than someone who lightens the burden of others.”                                                                                                                       – Joseph Addison

Truly said and nothing could be the best example than “Virtual Assistant” which is helping people to lessen their burdens and to do everything with ease. Who in this world had ever thought of talking to a machine that interacts and facilitates one’s task?

Contrary to a popular belief, Virtual Assistants didn’t start with the launch of Amazon Echo. The Virtual voice revolution started back in 1961 when IBM introduced IBM Shoebox which recognised only 16 words and digits. Siri was the first Virtual Assistant to reach a wide audience and it was the first time when an interaction of smart phones and voice took place. Google Now and Microsoft’s Cortana soon followed. Then in 2014, Amazon introduced the Alexa Virtual Assistant and Echo smart speaker. The Virtual Assistant concept got a big boom in the year 2016 when Google and Amazon gave their Virtual Assistant a real Face to the Voice. And the Industry is estimated to grow with a larger pace soon.

According to Cisco, connected home applications such as home automation/security/video surveillance and tracking applications will represent 46% or nearly half of the total M2M connections by 2021 and no doubt Virtual Assistant will play a tremendous role in it.

Due to the ever-expanding applications of Virtual Assistant, it will not only change our work but will also change the way we live in our homes. Gadgets like Amazon’s Echo and Google home connects different devices through the Internet of Things (IoT) by voice command, that’s called a Connected home.

When it comes to convenience and its benefits for differently-abled and aged people nothing can beat home automation with a voice assistant.

The role of Virtual Assistant in home automation is not only restricted to convenience, its application in home security and energy efficiency is ripe for disruption.

With the introduction of Siri, no one could have predicted that this novelty would become a driver for tech innovation. Now nearly nine years later, it is estimated that one in every  six Americans own a smart speaker (Google Home, Amazon Echo) and eMarketer forecasts that nearly 100 million smart phone users will be using Virtual Assistants in 2021.

It is not going to stop here it will even boost with some futuristic features that are challenges today –

  • Change in Search Behaviour -Visibility of voice will undoubtedly be a challenge. This is because the visual interface with Virtual Assistants is missing. Users simply cannot see or touch a voice interface unless it is connected to Alexa or Google Assistant app.
  • Individualized Experiences- Google Home can support up to six user accounts and detect unique voices, which allow Google Home users to customize many features. What about the family of more than six people or a company with hundreds of employees?
  • Security and Privacy- Forty-one per cent of Virtual Assistant users are concerned about trust and privacy according to a report from Microsoft. Verification and ID will also become paramount as part of the Virtual Assistant experience with more security being built around the user.

The one thing that we can say is that the evolution of intelligent personal assistants (IPAs) has come up as a perfect precursor to automate homes.  For instance, with the third-party intervention to develop Alexa skills, Amazon Echo has become more robust. Google Home has a huge ecosystem in its favour and thus has the advantage of being integrated with a search engine, email accounts, and other products.

A Productive Lockdown

When fishermen don’t go to sea, they repair their nets’. – Nabil Sabio Azadi.

Life as we knew changed on midnight of 24th March when Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi announced a lockdown of 21 days to prevent the spread of COVID19 throughout the country. Despite of enormous attempts by the government, the virus travelled quickly to various parts of the country and Prime Minister had no other choice than extending it till 3rd May. Everyone except those working in Healthcare sector and food production were not allowed to leave their homes.

This seemed as a wonderful opportunity to binge watch our favorite shows lying on a sofa with some snacks and cold drinks. But instead this can also be seen as an opportunity to develop skills, learn new things, and invest time on innovative ideas that can later be turned into something big. It is the time to do the things we couldn’t do in daily life schedule.

Children can use this time to learn skills like reading and writing that are going to be useful for them throughout their lives. College students can spend their time doing new courses that would give them practical knowledge and enrich their profiles. Elders should invest some time taking care of their health. Yoga and meditation can help them to keep their body and mind calm at the time of pandemic.

Before starting anything productive, it is of utmost importance that we keep our physical and mental health stable. It can be done by keeping our body routine same as it was before the lockdown. Apart from that daily exercise or Yoga can be an ideal solution.

In the time when everyone has been quarantined, one thing that has helped us to stay connected to the outer world is Technology. Online video platforms like Skype and Duo has helped employees to conduct online meetings. With the help of Zoom application, teachers are able to teach their whole class at once by just sitting at their homes. Online streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video have made this time a little less boring. Social media has helped us to stay in touch with our friends and relatives.

Apart from just entertainment and connection, Technology can be used to make this time productive. There are many platforms on the internet that can help us to learn things easily by staying at home. Some things on which we can invest our time during the lockdown are:-

  • Build your Resume:  There are many sites on the internet like edX, Coursera, that offer free online courses where learners are just supposed to attend online classes on any interested topic and give small tests at the end of lectures. These courses help in learning new skills that can be later useful and implemented at workplace. Learners also get a certificate at the end of the course which adds value to their resume.
  • Invest time on Startup ideas:  Many times we think of starting a new business with an innovative idea but are not able to do it due to lack of clear vision. Now, it is the right time to do researches, contact the right people and go ahead with your plan. Come up with ways of making your idea different from others’. Reading the stories of successful startups can also help you in coming up with some amazing ideas.
  • Learn a new language: If learning a new or a foreign language has been in your bucket list, it is right time to tick it off. With a wide selection of videos and online tutorials on YouTube, you can learn any language. All you need is a phone and internet connection.
  • Learn to play an instrument: There is nothing more stress relieving than playing an instrument. It is believed that everyone should learn playing at least one instrument. With so much free time, it’s never been easier to pick up a new skill. YouTube videos and online tutorials can help you out in this too.
  • Write your Autobiography: Doing this will serve two purposes; you can improve your writing skills and also know what you have done so far in life and what else you want to do.

There is no harm in spending some time to relax and chill but it is also important that we come out of this lockdown with some new skills and learning that would help us to be even more productive.

Spend some time with family. Stay Home, Stay Safe.

Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Automation are very popular terms nowadays but are still confusing and often interchanged.

How Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning & Home Automation is different but complimentary?
By Avenir
Artificial Intelligence | Machine Learning | Home Automation

Artificial Intelligence is a technique that emphasizes the machine to mimic human behaviour. According to John McCarthy,

Every aspect of learning can be so precisely described that a machine can be made to stimulate it. An attempt to make machine use language, form abstractions & concepts, solve some kind of human problems & improve themselves.

Virtual Assistants like Apple’s Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant, Google Maps, Smart Robots are the best examples of Artificial Intelligence.

Machine Learning is a subset of AI and makes data-driven decisions to carry out a specific task. It’s a simple algorithm that enables the software to improve its performance.

Let’s understand Machine Learning by an example,

Suppose we taught a computer to recognize the word ‘Avenir’ in many different styles, different fonts & different ways in the English Language by setting an algorithm. Now if any user uses that word the computer will automatically understand that word in any different style/font. But it wouldn’t be able to recognize the same word in other languages.

In Simple words, let’s imagine a child is taught to play a tune with a particular Key and with time he becomes an expert in it. Now if we tell that child to play the same tune with different Key, what will happen? He will not be able to play that tune.

In the same way, machine learning is an algorithm defined for a specific task to be performed and gains expertize in the same specific task. By setting an algorithm we are making an organized system for that specific task.

Automation is the process by which you can effectively operate the equipment by an algorithm or programming software to perform particular tasks with minimum human effort. Automation makes life more convenient by reducing the human effort.

Machine Learning is a technique for Artificial Intelligence & Artificial Intelligence is a tool for Automation.

Let’s decode,

Imagine, entering in a pitch dark room!

We have to manually switch on the lights, but what if the light turns on automatically when we enter the room. It will be more convenient and easier. The process of lights getting on/off automatically is automation.

At home, we can control the Air conditioner, Lightning System, Shades, etc. by using Virtual Assistant Siri, Google Assistant, Alexa etc. This means that AI is a tool for Automation.

Suppose the curtains automatically open during the sunrise and close at the time of sunset, that means that you have machine learning as a technique to perform Automation.

Lit the lamp of cleanliness to spread the light of godliness

Jesus

At Avenir, we are continuously working on our Home Automation systems to make it clean and tidy during the installation of our products in our clients’ personal & professional spaces at extraordinarily high standards.

So, how we go about achieving them? There are some Dos & Don’ts from a technician’s viewpoint for the home automation segment which is vital to be considered. Let’s understand them with some examples.

Bad pictures of automation

As seen in the pictures above, a normal looking distribution board (DB) has many loopholes. Let’s go through them one-by-one:

  1. Fault: There is no use of Lugs. Effect: Short-circuit can take place.
  2. Fault: There is no use of ferruling (tagging). Effect: Another technician or a layman won’t be able to identify a particular cable whenever necessary.
  3. Fault: Minimizing the length of wire so as to avoid the use of a cable tie. Effect: Making the system look very unclear and untidy.
  4. Fault: No usage of additional complementary accessories to make installation faster. Effect: Making maintenance tough and sometimes impossible which is hazardous when it comes to quality integration and increasing consistency of the products.

Thus, considering all these points, we can conclude that such type of systems in the home automation segment can take a shorter time but aesthetically & for maintenance purpose, it’s not feasible. Resulting in:

Low Capital Cost & High Maintenance Cost!

Now let’s go through another example where we discuss how the Distribution Board should be:

Good pictures of Avenir Home Automation Solutions
  1. Use the necessary accessories and devices which will be helpful for rack installation and panel design.
  2. Get the right space as per measurements & a detailed drawing of the panel.
  3. Follow the ideology of 80% planning and 20% implementation, religiously and save yourselves from errors & wastage of resources.
  4. Here listed are some of the most required things. Are your technicians using these?

a. Cable Ducts – protecting wires and hides the same in the most organized way.
b. MCBs & Connectors – detecting future problems quickly and accurately as we can easily isolate the faulty equipment & just work on that part without harming the rest of the solution.
c. Cable-to-cable connectors – prevent electric shock and lowering/ eliminating power losses.
d. Cable lugs – easy installation, repair and maintenance of automation devices and cables.
e. Cable Ties – for self-locking ability & cable dressing.
f. Ferruling – Tags on all the devices that create a family of product and helping all the stakeholders to understand the mechanism.

5. Last but not least, Automation equipment for your house!

Resulting in:

1. Greater Equipment Life Span
2. Zero Equipment Down Time
3. Optimum Capital Cost
4. Minimum Maintenance Cost

a. Energy Savings
